The summer of 2020 in Vermont has been filled with activism around black lives, policing and ICE. These images are from a variety of events--the painting of Black Lives Matter in the streets of Burlington and Jericho, protests about ICE's treatment of immigrants, Black Lives Matter marches in Burlington and Montpelier, an evening of Black music and poetry in Burlington. There is a fierceness and determination among protesters, as well as desire to educate the public of the impact of anti Black racism in our state. I have tried to capture their spirit, energy, and determination in these photos. Many of the marches are led by young Black leaders with strong participation and solidarity of young white Vermonters. Old and young, abled and disabled, and people of all colors are marching.
