In this summer of 2020 in Vermont, the death of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and most recently the shooting of Jacob Blake led to activism that this state has not seen--led by a thoughtful, committed, caring, and visionary group of young people. Groups such as The Black Perspective and Cop Watch were formed, to demand that we reckon with a policing system that puts in danger the lives of Black and Brown people, even as white Vermonters claim there is no problem in policing to be solved. These images are from a Support the Police rally in Montpelier. Black Lives Matter and the Black Perspective showed up to counter this rally with their voices. It was a tense three hours, and yet there were moments of real dialogue and exchange.
